Zeke Reveals How To Fix Run Game

    By Adam Schultz,

The Dallas Cowboys, as expected, have struggled to run the football in the opening month of the season, but Ezekiel Elliott knows how to get things back on track against the Pittsburgh Steelers .

The Cowboys have not rushed for more than 80 yards in their last three games, which gives defenses an inside track to zero in on Dak Prescott and the passing attack, which is detrimental to the offense.

For Elliott, who returns to the stadium where he rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns while hauling in two receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown as a rookie in 2016, he knows the formula to get the juice back in the run game.

"I think staying on schedule, not getting behind the chains," Elliott said. "We can't shoot ourselves in the foot with penalties, and then obviously just staying in the game can't get down."

Dallas has shot itself in the foot with poor penalties, and Tyler Guyton has been a repeat offender, and that takes the ball out of Elliott's hands and puts it into Prescott's.

But is that the key to getting the run game going? Or is it unleashing Dalvin Cook?

    Maybe it's both.

The veteran has been getting up to speed on Mike McCarthy's offense on the practice squad, and to many now feels like the time for Dalvin to finally get his shot.

"I'm just looking forward to bring some excitement to the team,” Cook said. “I feel great, so I'm just looking forward to the opportunity.”

So, maybe Dallas's run game works by staying ahead of the chains, limiting the laundry, and putting the ball in Cook's hands. Seems simple enough, right?

Alas, much to the chagrin of many in Cowboys Nation, Cook doesn't seem like a big depth-chart mover this week. Maybe Hunter Luepke is that guy?

In truth, something has to change for the rushing attack to ease the pressure on Dak. Otherwise, the Steelers defense, which doesn't have to worry about the run, could eat No. 4 alive.
