Which 'Surprise' Chiefs WR Steps Up for Mahomes?

The Kansas City Chiefs will look to advance to 5-0 on Monday night when they host the New Orleans Saints.

While the Chiefs are undefeated four games into the season, they suffered a huge loss on offense in Week 4, as star receiver Rashee Rice suffered a severe knee injury that will hold him out for a minimum of four weeks on injured reserve.

Although the team has continued to find ways to win, Kansas City's offense has struggled to get going so far this season. Patrick Mahomes has thrown just six touchdowns, which is a career-low through the first four games of a season.

Now, with Rice out for multiple weeks, Mahomes will need more of his weapons to step up. While many will immediately point to tight end Travis Kelce or rookie Xavier Worthy as the new top options, there could be another unexpected breakout candidate.

Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, who is now in his second stint with the Chiefs, is an experienced receiver who Mahomes may rely on more in the coming weeks. Would it constitute a "surprise'' if he becomes "that guy''?

Mahomes recently spoke about the reliability of Smith-Schuster and fellow receiver Justin Watson.

“They are always in the right position," said Mahomes. "They do what they are supposed to do – get guys lined up – and I think having those guys is a luxury because you know that they’re going to be there, they’re going to get open and they’re going to make plays when their numbers are called."

With the receiving corps they have available now, JuJu and Watson will need to kick it into the next gear. JuJu can be a chain mover...and Watson has deceptive speed to get open downfield. Mahomes may have to rely on them a little more now. Travis will be Travis... he's not going to be shut down all season, and he showed that last week. Skyy Moore needs to show his worth now...or he needs to move down to the practice squad to make way for somebody who can help. Just my opinion, but I think the Chiefs make a move during the bye week. Either way, it's going to be another wild ride this season in the quest for three. GO CHIEFS!!!
