Pat McAfee Predicts Major Week 6 College Football Upset

The No. 8-ranked Miami Hurricanes are a heavy favorite going into California Memorial Stadium on Saturday against the Cal Golden Bears.

Miami has the second-best offense in college football, the top-ranked passing offense, one of the top quarterbacks in the country in senior Cam Ward, and a dangerous run game built around transfer Damien Martinez and freshman Jordan Lyle, who have combined for nearly 500 yards and seven touchdowns through five games.

And though Miami is a 10.5-point favorite, that didn’t deter ESPN’s Pat McAfee from picking Cal to upset the Hurricanes Saturday night on ESPN.

“Everything in my football brain says that Cam Ward is averaging like 385 yards a game, he’s got 20 touchdowns, they got five wide receivers averaging more than 40 yards a game… they’re up over 200 yards a game rushing,” McAfee said. “They just bounced back from the Virginia Tech game. Was that a wake-up call? Maybe they play their best game ever.

“I don’t care…I’m caught up in, I’m caught up in the Berkley hype. It might be the air, it might be Marshawn, give me Cal to beat Miami here in Berkley — something I never thought I’d say in my life.”

Given McAfee’s penchant for the dramatic, last-second heel turn after hyping up the crowd, Golden Bears fans were likely waiting with bated breath as he started touting the Hurricanes before pulling a Lee Corso-like “not so fast, my friend.”

Miami has rolled through its opponents this season, outscoring the opposition 247-75 with wins over Florida, South Florida and Virginia Tech.

Conversely, Cal is 3-1 and coming off its first loss of the year against Florida State two weeks ago.
