The Texas A&M Aggies brought in a familiar face this offseason to become their next head coach after firing Jimbo Fisher in 2023. Mike Elko was the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils from 2022-23 and returned to College Station after being an assistant there from 2018-21.

Elko recovered after losing his first game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and after wins over McNeese, the Florida Gators, Bowling Green, and the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Aggies are 4-1.

Texas A&M came out of the gate swinging against the Missouri Tigers in Week 6, and David Pollack took notice of the Aggies, especially quarterback Connor Weigman. Weigman did not throw any touchdowns during the first half but completed over 70% of his passes.

Pollack praised Weigman's play during the game and made quite the prediction, stating that Texas A&M would be "in the mix." It was unclear whether Pollack referred to Texas A&M's chances of reaching the SEC championship or College Football Playoff.

"Connor Weigman showing today how big time he can be," Pollack said. "Poise. Athletic ability. Going through progressions. Dude can be ELITE!!!!! 13/17 171 yards & leading the team in rushing with 4/37 yards. Remember, A&M is undefeated in the SEC & peep that schedule. They will be in the mix."

Since 2014, the only SEC teams to make the playoff are the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, and Georgia Bulldogs. Texas A&M has never made it, but the format has now changed to allow 12 teams instead of four.

Texas A&M joined the SEC in 2012 and has never been to the SEC Championship game, as that trophy has eluded the Aggies.

Following Week 6, the remaining ranked teams on Texas A&M's schedule are the No. 13 LSU Tigers on Oct. 26 and No. 2 Texas Longhorns on Nov. 30.
