Game 1 of the American League Division Series between the Kansas City Royals and New York Yankees kicked off on Saturday, Oct. 5. After missing the postseason last year, the Yankees are back in the playoffs for the 59th time, the most in MLB history.

As for the Royals, they haven't made it to the playoffs since winning the World Series in 2015. Kansas City clinched their spot against the Yankees in the ALDS after sweeping the Baltimore Orioles in the Wild Card series.

Leading the play-by-play commentary for TBS' broadcast of Game 1 at Yankee Stadium, veteran sportscaster Bob Costas. While Costas has provided play-by-play for MLB games for several decades, fans are ready for a fresh voice.

Viewers bashed the 72-year-old's low energy commentary after Royals' outfielder Tommy Phan scored the first run of the game.

One fan posted on X, "Bob Costas is a legend, but please take him off of these playoff broadcasts, this is brutal." Barstool Sports' Frank Borelli posted , "It’s universally agreed upon that Bob Costas is the worst announcer in the history of baseball right?"

One viewer commented , "Bob Costas is a legend but in 2024 he’s incredibly hard to listen too… pack it up respectfully." Another fan wrote , "Bob Costas your time has been up big man."

After Yankees' second-basemean Gleyber Torres hit a two-run homer off Royals' pitcher Michael Wacha, the 29-time Emmy winner noted how the right field distance isn't that far. "Most ballparks around the league would hold that one. Not Yankee Stadium," Costas said, which fans didn't appreciate.

While the right field distance at Yankee Stadium is 314 yards, the shortest right field distance belongs to the Red Sox at Fenway Park (302) feet.

One fan posted , "Bob Costas is the worst announcer ever. No hype on a HR to take the lead and starts talking about how it’s not out in most parks before gleyber even finishes rounding the bases."
