Kalen DeBoer just suffered his first loss as head coach of the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide as the Vanderbilt Commodores shocked the world with a 40-35 upset win.

Nick Saban, who departed from Alabama after losing in last season's Rose Bowl, coached the Tide for four games against Vanderbilt during his 17 years. And all were won. Easily. In fact, Saban's defense only allowed 13 total points through all four games, 27 less than DeBoer's 40.

After the upset, Kristen Saban, the daughter of Nick, made an Instagram story sending a reminder to herself of her father's retirement.

"Me going to bed tonight knowing I do not have to take these games personally anymore," Kristen captioned her story, which included a selfie of herself with an Alabama shirt on.

It's no easy task to live up to a coach like Saban, but DeBoer got off to a great start with a big win over the Georgia Bulldogs in Week 5. However, the loss to Vanderbilt will certainly be a big hit to his resume. With seven games remaining, Alabama's playoff hopes still remain intact with the new 12-team expansion.

Saban coached the Crimson Tide from 2007-2023 where he won six national championships and nine SEC titles. However, Saban's 206 wins with the program is just second behind Bear Bryant's 232.

The 72-year-old also led the Michigan State Spartans and the LSU Tigers before a brief NFL stint with the Miami Dolphins from 2006-2007. Following his retirement, Saban joined ESPN's "College GameDay" as an analyst.

Alabama now sits at 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in the SEC. DeBoer and company will head back to Tuscaloosa for a Week 7 battle with the South Carolina Gamecocks.
