Florida State head coach Mike Norvell entered the 2024 college football season with plenty of job security, having just won the ACC title and a popular pick to win it again.

But after a 1-5 start to the season, some are questioning whether it's time for the Seminoles to move on from Norvell. Florida State fell to No. Clemson 29-13 on Saturday, leading to a new round of calls for the head coach's dismissal.

"Mike Norvell was winning but everybody that really knew how they were winning could tell you that wasnt sustainable," one fan wrote on X. "Now you see what he is. A mediocre coach with 3 losing seasons at Florida State."

"Not saying that Mike Norvell is going to get fired but he’s gotta be feeling his seat getting hotter and hotter and hotter," added another.

Bill Bender of The Sporting News noted after Florida State's 0-3 start -- all losses to unranked opponents -- that Norvell could be on the hot seat despite the 10-year, $84 million contract extension he signed in January. The buyout for the contract is close to $25 million, Bender noted.

"Those are huge numbers, and that is why it is unlikely Florida State would move on from Norvell after the 2024 season," Bender wrote. "That, however, was before Florida State started 0-3. Norvell was on the hot seat before the 2022 season after compiling an 8-15 record in his first two seasons with the Seminoles."

College programs deterior because ... one year, excited fans put a coach on the highest pedestal ... then the very next year, the same fans want the same coach tarred and feathered and ran out of town. It's either instant gratification or "throw the baby out with the bath water."
