Teodosic was unfamiliar with how the NBA system worked, especially when he got waived.

Many were surprised when a 30-year-old Milos Teodosic became part of the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2017/18 season. The Serbian guard played a season and some change before getting waived midway into the 2018/19 campaign.

Since he was still a fresh face in the NBA space, Teodosic was blissfully unaware of the big picture in the league. Milos did not get to fulfill his entire contract because he got waived midway into his second season with the Clippers. However, he first needed to be made aware of what it meant.

"Doc Rivers and Lawrence Frank called me first to tell me I'm out of contract. They explained how it was a great thing," Teodosic said on the X&O's Chat podcast. "I hung up the phone and started asking what it means to be 'waived.' I call people. I asked them what it was; someone explained that I had to go there if some team matched the offer."

Milos had a decent stint in the NBA

Teodosic is mainly known for his legendary career in Europe, but he was a decent point guard for the Clippers. The team scooped him up after Chris Paul was traded away to the Houston Rockets in the 2017 offseason.

The Clippers knew they needed a creative force in the point guard position and felt Milos was the right choice. He was one of the flashiest players in Europe and had an unreal court vision like CP3. Of course, court vision and passing are not the only skills Chris possesses because he is a legitimate star point guard who is familiar with the NBA style.

Unfortunately, Teodosic could not cope with the NBA style because he was more of a finesse and flashy player than the athletic type that usually thrives in the NBA. The Serbian has some showman highlights, but he never established himself as the starting guard for an NBA team.

Milos returned to Europe after getting waived

When Doc Rivers and Lawrence Frank told him that getting waived was good for him, many were surprised because being in the NBA is the dream for any player. Getting let go by a team can be heartbreaking, but Milos identified that Europe was always the best place for him to play.

A few months later, he returned to Europe, signing with Virtus Bologna in Italy, where he would play until 2023. After that, he joined Crvena Zvezda, his childhood favorite team, where he continues to play today. It was a disappointing end to his NBA dream, but at least he made it to the league and proved he deserved plaudits.
