Browns' Amari Cooper Issues Blunt Message on Deshaun Watson's Starting Status

The Cleveland Browns are 1-4 and on the precipice of a lost season, but still the team will stick with quarterback Deshaun Watson at least one more week.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski made as much clear when he declared definitively on Sunday, October 6, following a 23-point blowout loss to the Washington Commanders that, "We're not changing quarterbacks."

Stefanski went on to say that he needs to coach better and the team needs to play better.

Amari Cooper , Cleveland's top wide receiver, echoed that sentiment with his own postgame comments.

"Browns WR Amari Cooper: 'To be honest, I don't think Deshaun is the problem at all. We can always play better for him,'" Cooper said, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN .

In fairness to Watson, Cooper came into the game with 6 drops on the year.

Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy , for whom the Browns traded over the offseason, also dropped a TD pass in the third quarter on a near-perfect throw that would have made the game 24-10 and at least provided Cleveland with a whiff of hope.

Stefanski pulled Watson for the final drive of the game, replacing him with Jameis Winston . Watson finished the afternoon 15-of-28 passing for 125 yards and 1 TD .

The Commanders' pass rush also sacked Watson 7 times, moving his number to 26 sacks through five games this year. Watson entered the day as the most-sacked quarterback in the NFL at 19 times in four contests and is likely to retain that dubious honor after his offensive line struggled mightily yet again.
