Panthers Announce Bryce Young Decision After Loss to Bears

The Carolina Panthers fell to 1-4 at the hands of the Chicago Bears by a score of 36-10 on Sunday.

The Andy Dalton-led Panthers have had one small glimmer of hope this season, an emphatic 36-22 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3. Other than that, it has been tough sledding for head coach Dave Canales and the Panthers.

The loss to the Bears marks the Panthers' third defeat this season by 20 or more points, being on the wrong side of blowouts to the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers.

The Panthers went into the season starting Bryce Young, the first overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. After two miserable offensive performances to start the season, Carolina opted to make a change at quarterback, promoting journeyman veteran Andy Dalton to the starting role.

This move triggered an offensive explosion for the Panthers, which turned out to be short-lived following the disappointing Week 5 performance against the Bears.

Late into the second half of what was clearly a lost game, Canales made the call to sub in the second-year quarterback.

Young made one quick highlight play , but the Panthers still took the loss 36-10. After the game, the Panthers' head coach was asked about his plans at quarterback going forward.

Coach Canales confirmed the Panthers would continue to start Andy Dalton despite the mediocre offensive performance on Sunday.

"Andy is our quarterback," the first-year head coach said . Canales gave credit to the young quarterback, noting that Bryce Young's play was "fantastic," but the Panthers are sticking with the veteran Dalton.

Dalton finished the game Sunday having completed 18 of his 28 attempts for 136 yards and no touchdowns to go with his single interception.

It's clear that the Panthers have a problem, but we will have to wait and see if they end up going back to their one-time hopeful franchise quarterback in Bryce Young.

The problem starts at the top with the owner. They have no star players on offense or defense. The offensive line is horrible and their defense is non-existent 🤷🏾‍♂️
