Jim Nantz Slaps Unfortunate Nickname on 'Nervous' Packers Kicker

Brayden Narveson has had a difficult enough year as it is with the Packers without CBS Sports play-by-play man Jim Nantz making things more difficult.

Yet, when Narveson lined up for a 46-yard field goal with two seconds to play in the first half of the Packers' Week 5 game against the Rams on Sunday, Nantz came up with a nickname that pretty much summed up the feeling of Packers fans everywhere when it comes to Narveson.

"Nervous Narveson," Nantz dubbed him. Ouch.

Narveson did, it turns out, make the kick.

In his first NFL season, though, Narveson entered Week 5 with four missed field-goal attempts in 13 tries, including two in last week's two-point loss to Minnesota. Narveson, Nantz pointed out, was the only kicker to miss a field goal from within 40 yards through four weeks of the year.

The kicking game is an especially touchy subject for the Packers and the team's fans. Green Bay took the rare step in 2023 of using a draft pick--a sixth-rounder--on kicker Anders Carlson, who was unsteady as a rookie. The team wound up cutting both Carlson and backup Greg Joseph this summer, and claimed Narveson off waivers on August 28.

Packers fans certainly caught onto the Nantz moniker.

Narveson missed two kicks in the first two weeks, then added two more misses against Minnesota. He might have gone 1-for-1 in the first half vs. the Rams, but he's got a long way to go before he inspires faith among Packers fandom.

Nance is so annoying, feeling he must fill every moment of silence with his voice and his delusional narcissism that what he has to say is so profound. STFU!
