Box Nix's Three-Word Message to Broncos Coach After Heated Exchange

The Denver Broncos notched their straight win after trouncing the Las Vegas Raiders, 34-18, at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday.

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix went 19-of-27 for 206 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a score. Star cornerback Patrick Surtain II, meanwhile, had two interceptions, including a 100-yard return for a touchdown to help the Broncos improve to 3-2.

There was high tension during the game, particularly between Nix and Broncos coach Sean Payton, who had a heated verbal spat with less than two minutes in the third quarter after an incomplete play.

But after the win, the 61-year-old Payton downplayed it as just another day in the office, saying, "it's part of the deal," as quoted by a report from ESPN's Jeff Legwold .

The Super Bowl champion coach also compared the 24-year-old Nix to the main character in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," a classic movie about a rebellious teenager.

When asked about his animated interaction with Payton, Nix kept it simple.

"He turned and looked at me and said 'I love you' and I turned and said 'I love you' back,'' said the No. 12 overall pick in the same report.

When prodded further, Nix simply chalked it up to their high-spirited psyche when they're battling for a win. He also noted that he's seen "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" a couple of times.

"I watched the movie, I think that's funny," added Nix, who only had one touchdown pass in his first four games. "We're just out there with great competitiveness and fire.

"We can have those conversations and move right back along and score another few touchdowns, and it doesn't bother us.''

The Broncos will next face the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 13.
