Mike McCarthy has been coaching in the NFL for nearly two decades now but it was only on Sunday when the Dallas Cowboys head coach received the first game ball of his career. After steering the Cowboys to a come-from-behind 20-17 win in Pittsburgh, McCarthy revealed in the postgame press conference that Dak Prescott and Dallas players decided to give him the game ball, per Clarence Hill Jr .

"Dak Prescott and the Cowboys gave Mike McCarthy a game ball after the win against the Steelers," Hill wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

"Mike McCarthy grew up in Pittsburgh. It's his first ever win in his hometown. It was the first game ball he has ever received from a team he coached. It was a special night for the Cowboys."

The Cowboys trailed Pittsburgh by three points after Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth scored a touchdown reception with a little under five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

But Dallas responded to that with a scoring drive that ate up nearly all of the time left on the game clock, as Prescott fired a touchdown pass to Jalen Tolbert on a fourth-and-four situation, leaving just 20 seconds left in regulation for Pittsburgh. Fortunately for Dallas, that was not enough time for the Steelers to author a miracle.

Prescott had an up-and-down performance in the Steelers game. He had 352 passing yards and two touchdowns on 29-of-42 completions but also threw a pair of picks and also last a fumble. But Prescott and the Cowboys refused to let those blunders define their night in Pittsburgh, as Dallas improved their record to 3-2 after losing two of its first three games in the 2024 season.

Coming up next for the Cowboys is a Week 6 date with the Detroit Lions back in Arlington.
