Panthers Coach Leaves No Doubt About His Opinion of Caleb Williams After Bears Win

Caleb Williams had the best game of his young career after leading the Chicago Bears to a 36-10 rout of the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The rookie quarterback finished 20-of-29 for 304 yards and two touchdowns, both to wide receiver DJ Moore, as the Bears improved to 3-2 with back-to-back wins.

Before the start of the season, Williams, the No. 1 overall pick, acknowledged that his learning curve is still high. He struggled a bit in their first few assignments but has grown more comfortable running the Bears.

“He’s just learning and growing and you can see that in these games that we’ve had," said Bears coach Matt Eberflus in a report from the Associated Press . "He knows that."

"So he’s just got to level up, keep leveling up and every time we’ve challenged him he’s done that ever since the summer.”

Even Panthers coach Dave Canales sang praises for the performance of the 22-year-old signal-caller on Sunday. Carolina fell to 1-4.

“I just thought he did a fantastic job extending plays,” observed Canales. “We had him dead to rights a couple of times. He wiggled out of great rushes, great pressure on him.

"We had things covered, live looking at it, and he extended the play and found completions.”

Williams said their latest win displayed how they truly envision their style of play. With Eberflus handing him the keys, the Heisman Trophy winner will only get better.

Up next for the Bears are the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Oct. 13.
