On Saturday, former Michigan Wolverines football star and current New England Patriots defensive back Jabrill Peppers was arrested, according to Braintree, Massachusetts police.

Peppers faces multiple charges, including assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a Class B substance.

The former first-round pick did not participate in the Patriots' Week 5 loss to the Miami Dolphins , which took place on Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

According to 98.5 The Sports Hub , "Peppers, 29, was arrested after officers responded to a disturbance at a home, involving an altercation between two individuals. The victim was treated by EMS at the scene. Peppers is expected to be arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court."

Jabrill Peppers appeared to have found a home in New England with the Patriots, establishing himself as one of the more effective defensive cornerstones on the roster.

During his remarkable 2016 collegiate season, Peppers finished fifth in the Heisman voting as a defensive back and was widely regarded as one of the best non-quarterbacks in the nation. He was later selected 25th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns .

Although his career got off to a slow start, Peppers has evolved into a solid NFL player for the Patriots. However, his progress has now been overshadowed by recent news of his arrest over the weekend in Massachusetts.
