The Minnesota Vikings are 5-0 and could be the last undefeated team in the NFL by the end of the day. Either way, they've been one of the best stories in the league so far this season and now get a bye week to rest and recuperate.
When they get back, they'll have plenty to try to correct, as the defense bailed out the rest of the team on Sunday despite really rough showings from the offense and special teams units.
Before we get into looking further ahead, let's look back at the most recent win. Here are the top Vikings performers on both offense and defense against the Jets, according to Pro Football Focus. For reference, a grade of 60.0 is considered average while those in the 30s are very poor and those in the 90s are elite.
Meanwhile, the lowest-graded Vikings on offense were RG Ed Ingram (36.0), QB Sam Darnold (47.9), RB Ty Chandler (48.7) and LG Blake Brandel (54.0).
Darnold had his worst game as a Viking, Chandler managed just 2.1 yards per carry after Jones got hurt, Ingram gave up five pressures and a sack and Brandel gave up two pressures while being inefficient in the run game.
Credit the Jets, who are one of the best defenses in the league, but the Vikings obviously have some areas to improve.
The lowest-graded Vikings defenders were S Harrison Smith (37.9), DT Taki Taimani (43.1), DL Jihad Ward (51.7) and ED Patrick Jones II (53.6).
Van Ginkel had another pick-six but he also tallied three pressures; Pace, in his return from injury, had two pressures, a sack and a team-high five stops; and Greenard had seven more pressures and somehow isn’t higher despite a missed tackle and seven-yard catch allowed.
Smith got dinged for being credited with three catches allowed, including one of the Jets’ touchdowns.
Overall, the group wasn’t perfect in the second-half but the defense was absolutely the key to the Vikings’ win on Sunday. With how they play as a whole, Minnesota will have a chance almost every week, regardless of the offense’s performance.
