After adding Paul George in free agency this summer, the Philadelphia 76ers are being considered Championship contenders. They are not the only Eastern Conference team to bring in an All-Star this offseason.

Karl Anthony-Towns was acquired by the New York Knicks from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a blockbuster trade recently which saw Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo head in the opposite direction.

Led by Jalen Brunson, the Knicks were already among the East's top contenders following the arrival of Mikal Bridges and the re-signing of OG Anunuoby.

With Towns now joining them, anything other than a trip to the NBA Finals would have to be seen as a disappointment for the Knicks.

George did not hold back in his praise despite the rivalry between the 76ers and the Knicks.

According to Keith Pompey in The Philadelphia Inquirer , George said about Towns: "Obviously, KAT is one of the best three-point shooting bigs in the league, probably history of the league. I get the dynamic that they want it for.

"But it’s going to be interesting. Obviously, the Knicks are on the rise as well as ourselves and a couple of other teams in our league. So they definitely made a splash in an epic way."

Towns now joins a Knicks team that is desperate to make a run for a Championship after showing tremendous growth in recent years.

In the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, the Knicks defeated the Sixers. In the second round, it looked like they had run out of gas and lost to the Indiana Pacers.

With the addition of another All-Star as well as Bridges, New York got better over the offseason. But so did the Sixers.

Apart from bringing in players like George, Andre Drummond, Caleb Martin and more, the 76ers also agreed extensions with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

In their quest to end a four-decade-long wait for an NBA championship, the Sixers are hoping that the nine-time All-Star will have a significant impact during the playoffs.

Players like George and Embiid remaining fit come postseason time will be of paramount importance in that quest.
