Paul Finebaum Names Historic College Football Program That Was ‘Pathetic’ In Week 6

Week 6 of the college football season shifted a lot of things in the rankings. In total, there were seven top-25 upsets over the past weekend, with some stunning results.

Tennessee fell to Arkansas as the Vols held the No. 4 ranking entering that game. Missouri got blown out by Texas A&M as the Tigers held a top-10 ranking as well.

Moreover, Alabama was stunned by Vanderbilt as the Crimson Tide's No. 1 ranking lasted just one week following the win over Georgia.

On Monday during an episode of "First Take", Paul Finebaum called out Alabama for the "pathetic" performance.

"That's why this was so debilitating and quite frankly pathetic and embarrassing," Finebaum said. "This is the same school that beat Georgia a week ago and lost to a school that lost to Georgia Southern."

After that, Stephen A. Smith went on another rant.

"It was an embarrassment," Smith said. "It was disgusting. Those players should have bags over their heads walking around campus all week long. They should be ashamed of themselves."

Both Finebaum and Stephen A. let their feelings be known about Alabama's loss to Vanderbilt.

Finebaum points out Vanderbilt's recent play, which is surely a surprising turn of events given the way it played against the Crimson Tide.

Prior to the Alabama upset win, Vanderbilt lost to Missouri on the road, but they fell in Week 3 to Georgia Southern on the road as well.

In Week 6, they looked nothing like the team that fell to Georgia Southern, rather they looked like a team that could contend in SEC play.

The criticism for Alabama will continue for some time, although they have a chance to avenge themselves quickly. The Crimson Tide face South Carolina followed by top-25 matchups against Tennessee and Missouri before a much-needed Week 10 bye.

Nick Sabin always said that teaching the X’s and O’s was the easy part. Getting 18-21 year old kids mentally up each week is the hardest part of the job.
