The Minnesota Gophers knocked off No. 11 USC on Saturday and now the team’s starting quarterback is getting praise for his role in the upset victory.

Max Brosmer was named Monday to the Davey O’Brien Foundation’s Great 8 list, which recognizes the top eight quarterback performances each week of the college football season.

Brosmer completed 15-of-19 passes for 169 yards but also rushed for all three Gophers touchdowns on Saturday. That made him the first Gopher with at least three rushing scores in a game since Mohamed Ibrahim in 2022 and the first Minnesota quarterback to do so since Mitch Leidner scored four times against San Jose St. in 2013.

So far this season, the graduate transfer has completed 117-of-173 passes for 1,263 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions while adding four rushing touchdowns — the second-most on the team. His 67.6% completion rate is also on pace to break the program record of 66.9% set by Tanner Morgan in 2019.

The honor also officially puts Brosmer on the watch list for the Davey O’Brien Award, which honors outstanding quarterbacks who excel not only athletically but also academically and in character, sportsmanship and leadership.
