College Football Power Rankings Update: Michigan Falls Out of Top 25

    By Nick Wright,

Saturday was a harsh day for Michigan fans as the Washington Huskies handily defeated the Wolverines 27-17. Huskies quarterback Will Rogers passed for 271 yards and threw two first-half touchdowns. Jonah Coleman's 1-yard touchdown with 6:22 remaining gave Washington the lead, eventually winning this rematch of last season's College Football Championship.

Before Saturday's loss to the Huskies, the Wolverines were ranked No. 10 on the College Football Rankings. After their crushing defeat, they are nowhere to be found on the list.

The Three Reasons for Michigan's Drop

    1. Fumbles

Michigan was plagued by turnovers on Saturday, when Tuttle fumbled with 8:02 remaining after a hit from Voi Tunuufi, Logan Sagapolu recovered the ball at the Michigan 32-yard line giving the Huskies great field position. Coleman then dashed 27 yards on the first play, getting the ball to the 5 yard line, which led to an easy touchdown.

    2. Interceptions

Tuttle was intercepted by Fabiculanan with 3:24 remaining. The Huskies turned opportune field position into points, converting on a 32-yard field-goal that extended their lead to 10 points and secured the victory.

    3. Weak Defensive Backfield

Washington threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday. While they did force Rogers to throw one interception, collectively, Huskies quarterbacks were 23 or 33 through the air (that's a 70% completion percentage).

Let's hope that the Wolverines can address these problems and regain their spot on the top 25.
