On Tuesday, the New York Jets made the decision to fire head coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start to the season.

The Jets lost in London to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5, and the franchise has had a rough start this season.

In the meantime, defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will be the interim head coach for the Jets, but several candidates have already surfaced for the job.

One name that has popped up on social media, although it is not very realistic, is former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

As soon as Saleh got fired, fans tossed Belichick's name around.

"Y’all think the Jets go after Bill Belichick ??" one fan wrote on X.

The Buzzer tweeted out a GIF with a caption that read, "Bill Belichick hearing that Aaron Rodgers got Robert Saleh fired from the Jets."

"Welcome to the New York Jets, Bill Belichick," another wrote on X.

The DraftKings X account even got in on the fun, writing, "Bill Belichick to the Jets soon" with an eye emoji .

The Belichick-Jets rumblings continued to circulate.

"I know this will likely never happen because Bill Belichick hates the Jets, but I think Woody Johnson at least has to make the phone call," Gary Myers wrote on X. "The chance to coach Aaron Rodgers, who Belichick admires, on a win-now team, combined with Woody's money, could smooth things over. Belichick needs 15 victories to pass Don Shula for winningest coach all time. He also needs one Super Bowl victory to prove it wasn't all Tom Brady in New England. The Jets would give him both those opportunities."

"Bill Belichick is a Jet," a fan said .

"The #Jets need to get on the phone right now and offer whatever it takes to get Bill Belichick. Bill will get his revenge on NE, and the Jets will get a coach who knows what it takes to win a Super Bowl," added another.

Belichick won six Super Bowls as the head coach of the Patriots, the Jets' AFC East rival.

Before any of that, he was hired by the Jets to be the head coach in January 2000. However, Belichick famously sent in his resignation on a napkin , and the discord between Belichick and the Jets has been prevalent ever since.

Since then, Belichick spent years going against the Jets in the AFC East. On top of that, Belichick's departure in 2000 was due to the ongoing uncertainty of the ownership with a bidding war taking place.

On the other hand, Belichick might be enamored to take another NFL job after he interviewed for the Atlanta Falcons opening before they decided to hire Raheem Morris.

All in all, Belichick going to the Jets to replace Saleh is quite the stretch given the history.
