Paul Finebaum Names Top 10 College Football Program Whose Aura is 'Dented'

This past weekend of college football was full of chaos around the country, with ranked teams dropping like flies.

Five of the top 15 programs lost in Week 6, with four of those programs ranking in the top 11 and suffering embarrassing defeats to unranked opponents. While none of the fan bases of those respective programs are necessarily taking the loss well, it appears that no program is taking it worse than Alabama Crimson Tide fans.

Under new head coach Kalen DeBoer, the previously No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide were outplayed by the Vanderbilt Commodores, who hadn't beaten Alabama in 40 years. The loss has been taken so poorly that fans have already called for DeBoer's firing, and some are outraged by him not wearing a polo on the sidelines.

When appearing on ESPN's "Get Up," SEC analyst Paul Finebaum explained just how devastating this loss is to the fanbase. Finebaum went as far as to tell host Mike Greenberg that he was wrong for thinking that fans should overlook the loss to Vanderbilt because the Tide knocked off the Georgia Bulldogs the week prior.

"First of all, Greeny (Greenberg), you attended and graduated from as much as an Ivy League school as you can get in the Big Ten Northwestern," Finebaum said . "You think in a practical fashion. Fans do not. They only know what they see. Had they lost to Georgia and lost to Vanderbilt it would still be bad but they felt like the Saban era was over. DeBoer is our new guy. He's going to do the same thing Saban did.

"That's how fans are," Finebaum said. "They're irrational and they just couldn't handle this. All of the things Heather (Dinich) said are correct but the problem is the mystique and the aura over Alabama has now been dented."

Saturday marked a monumental win for Vanderbilt's football program, as they had never beaten a top-five program in the school's history. As for Alabama, everything that they want to accomplish is still in play, but now the program has no room for error.

However, it won't be easy, as according to ESPN's FPI , the Tide ranks No. 15 in remaining strength of schedule, with four of the team's final six games against ranked opponents.

If Tide fans melted down after just one loss, multiple losses that could force them to miss the playoff would be quite a sight to see.
