The Carolina Panthers’ pass rush has been struggling all season, leaving fans wondering if help was on the way. With an average of just 1.2 sacks per game, second worst in the NFL, it was clear that changes were needed. This week, the Panthers took steps to address this critical issue, making moves aimed at revitalizing their defensive front.

To boost their pass-rushing capabilities, the Panthers promoted defensive end DeShawn Williams from the practice squad to the active roster. Williams, a seasoned player with a career spanning stints with the Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos, brings experience and reliability to Carolina’s defensive line. Last season, he played in 16 games for the Panthers, showcasing his potential to disrupt opposing offenses. The move signals the Panthers’ intent to maximize his familiarity with their system in hopes of immediate impact.

Former first-round pick Shaq Lawson has been signed to the Panthers’ practice squad. Lawson, who has 26 career sacks, aims to reignite his career in Carolina after spells with the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and New York Jets. Though his numbers have been modest, Lawson’s experience and versatility could provide the Panthers with a much-needed spark opposite veteran Jadeveon Clowney, whose effectiveness has been limited without consistent pressure from the rest of the line.

The injury-plagued Panthers needed to shore up their defense urgently. With Pro Bowl defensive lineman Derrick Brown and linebacker Shaq Thompson both sidelined for the season, Carolina’s defense has been left vulnerable. These roster moves show a proactive effort by the Panthers to patch up their defense and bring stability to a pass rush that has struggled to gain traction.

The Panthers’ recent additions demonstrate a commitment to turning their season around by reinvigorating their pass rush. If Williams and Lawson can step up and deliver, Carolina might just find the defensive spark they’ve been missing all year.
