An analyst suggests that the Golden State Warriors rising star, Jonathan Kuminga, could be a potential trade target for the LA Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers are stuck in the NBA's "no man's land." It's a place no franchise wants any part of, as it means the team isn't good enough to win the NBA title, nor is it bad enough to capture a high draft pick. What once was a potent "Big 3" has been whittled down to a less-than-dependable duo of the aging James Harden and the oft-injured Kawhi Leonard, who will be playing with a mismatched roster that features a mix of grizzled veterans and wet-around-the-ears youngsters.

The Clippers are willing to soldier on and see what the season looks like. Still, if the front office decides enough is enough, two players stand out as potential trade targets, beginning with the young star of the Golden State Warriors, Jonathan Kuminga.

Kawhi for JK and Andrew Wiggins

If the Clippers decide to move on from Leonard—their best trade asset—capturing two athletic forwards could get this potential trade going. While Wiggins and his enormous salary are in this trade to make the numbers work, the centerpiece is undoubtedly Kuminga. The seventh overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft, Kuminga showed flashes of brilliance last season, averaging 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

However, Golden State has yet to sign the hyper-athletic 6-foot-8 wingman, and talks of a contract extension are stalling. This development could open the door for the Clippers to swoop in and make an enticing offer.

"Golden State has yet to extend Kuminga, which may or may not indicate it still has questions about his long-term outlook. If the Clippers move Kawhi, they could do much worse than landing a possible All-Star forward in his age-22 season," Bleacher Report's Grant Hughes said .

    Terance Mann for Bennedict Mathurin

Outside of Leonard, Harden, and Norman Powell, the Clippers have yet to have any other dependable scoring options. They must consider trading for young wingman Bennedict Mathurin, whose fit with the Indiana Pacers looks murky.

"An intuitive scorer who flashed impressive foul-drawing craft as a rookie, Mathurin isn't a clear fit on a Pacers team that already has Tyrese Haliburton and extended guards Andrew Nembhard and TJ McConnell this offseason," Hughes explained.

While the Clippers would miss Mann's low-maintenance skills and defensive tenacity, the Clippers need another body that can create his shot and help put points on the board. Mathurin has already proven himself capable of flourishing in such a role.
