The New York Yankees have been able to take a 2-1 series advantage against the Kansas City Royals in the American League Division Series despite their biggest star struggling. Judge went 0-4 with a walk in the team’s 3-2 victory in Game 3.

The captain’s first and only hit of the series came in the form of an eighth-inning single in Game 2. He has gone 1-11 through three games.

The biggest criticism against Judge has been his inability to hit in the playoffs. The captain is one of the favorites for the AL MVP award due to his regular season performance. He led the league with 58 home runs, 144 RBIs, a .458 on-base percentage, a .701 slugging percentage, a 1.159 OPS, and a 10.8 WAR.

Judge has played in 47 playoff games, and his numbers take a big hit. He is batting .203 with a .748 OPS. Stretching back to the 2022 postseason, Judge has two hits in his last 27 at-bats.

Despite Judge’s lack of production, the Yankees have still won two of three games to start this year’s playoffs.

Four hitters combined to drive in six runs in the team’s Game 1 victory. The Yankees were then held to just two runs in Game 2. Giancarlo Stanton drove in two runs in Game 3 as the Bronx Bombers only needed four hits in the win.

Judge’s next opportunity to break out of his playoff slump comes Thursday night in Game 4 of the ALDS.
