Gardner Minshew won the starting quarterback role for the Raiders after beating out Aidan O'Connell in a true training camp quarterback competition.

Now it's been announced that O'Connell will start Week 6 , meaning Minshew lost the in season battle of keeping his job. This won't be the first time O'Connell takes the field in 2024, he's stepped in as relief for Minshew in two games this season, against the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.

Now with the news of O'Connell starting there's some questions about what this could mean for Minshew moving forward. Some of those questions were answered by Antonio Pierce while he was addressing the media as shared to social media by Paul Gutierrez .

The key point to take from that post is "will make a change when a change is needed" the Raiders have needed some sort of change on offense at the very last the past two weeks, now they're getting one.

With this move the Raiders now have one of the most expensive backups in the league as Minshew is scheduled to make $12.5 million this season if you count his signing bonus.

Unless O'Connell loses his first three games after being thrown back into the starting role, it's hard to imagine Minshew becomes the starter again at any point in this season.
