Did Mike Tomlin and the Steelers Lie to Ex QB Kenny Pickett?

As the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for this week's matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders out west, the team is still dealing with sketchy quarterback play. The team completely turned over its quarterback room in the offseason, dismissing Mason Rudolph, Mithcell Trubisky and Kenny Pickett.

The team replaced them with Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Kyle Allen. Wilson won the starting job out of camp but has been dealing with a calf injury that has kept him out of the lineup all season while Fields has taken over - and struggled.

But according to CBS Sports' Akiti Kinkhabwala, who appeared on 93.7 The Fan's PM Team with Poni & Mueller , that's not how it was supposed to go.

Per Kinkhabwala, Tomlin promised Wilson the starting job before he signed, after he had done the same thing with Pickett before he was traded.

"Justin Fields has played well, but he has not set the world on fire," Kinkhabwala said. "I think it's very fair that Mike Tomlin wants to see what he has in Russell Wilson. Whatever the reason, there's a reason he promised him the starting job when, quite frankly, Kenny Pickett was still on his roster and two weeks prior, he had told Kenny Pickett, 'We're going to do everything to support you better than we have since you've been here.'"

Pickett was the team's first-round draft pick out of Pitt in 2022 and was never able to have success leading a dysfunctional offense led by Matt Canada, who was fired mid-season last year.

The team failed to give Pickett a fair chance to succeed and wanted out after the signing of Wilson, eventually being traded to Philadelphia.

The issues fall upon the poor Drafting, Coaching, and lack of Accountability on the Offensive Line Coach, WR Coach, and the "Closet Defensive Coordinator" in Head Coach Tomlin? Highest Priced Defense, and Lowest Priced Offense just equals a barely.500 Team? After all, the Standard is to not have a losing season, barely compete, spend less and charge the Loyal Fans More for "Average"!! In "Totality" per Tomlin!!
