Jets Trade Proposal Lands Team All-Pro WR Not Named Davante Adams

Given the struggles of the New York Jets’ passing offense, it makes sense that the team would be on the hunt to add another high-profile receiver to pair opposite Garrett Wilson.

Allen Lazard has performed admirably through five games — 20 receptions, 33 targets, 240 yards, four touchdowns — but many analysts feel he’s better suited for a WR3 role instead of 1B or a WR2.

The Jets are the current front-runners to land Las Vegas Raiders wideout Davante Adams — a move that would reunite him with quarterback Aaron Rodgers — but the $17 million price tag attached to Adams may make that deal difficult to pull off.

Instead, Bleacher Report has New York upgrading its wide receiver corps by trading for another multi-time All-Pro — Tennessee Titans star DeAndre Hopkins.

“The money is going to be difficult to figure out in a trade for [Adams], so we'll highlight another possibility in DeAndre Hopkins,” the Bleacher Report scouting department wrote.

“The Titans are off to a rough start and Calvin Ridley is clearly the No. 1 receiver of the future. Hopkins is on an expiring contract, which makes the financial side of trading for him easier. The Jets simply need another receiver opposite Garrett Wilson. Mike Williams has not really worked out to this point, and Allen Lazard isn't a good enough option for that role.”

Though Hopkins is a year older than the 31-year-old Adams, he’s a significantly cheaper option with a cap hit that’s $7.037 million less than Adams.

Hopkins is also coming off a statistically similar season in terms of receiving yards (1,144 for Adams, 1,057 for Hopkins) and touchdowns (8 for Adams, 7 for Hopkins), and he averaged three more yards per reception (14.1 to 11.1) with fewer drops (four to nine) than Adams last season.

Pairing Hopkins and Wilson together would also allow the Jets to slide Lazard to the slot, where he played 42% of his snaps from 2019 to 2022 with the Green Bay Packers (he played out of the slot just 2.2% of the time in his first season with the Jets in 2023.)
