National Anthem Performance Before 49ers-Seahawks Turns Heads

The Seattle Seahawks take on the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football. After suffering two consecutive losses, the Seahawks, playing their third game in 11 days, want to get back in the win column with a victory over their NFC West rival.

As for the 49ers, still playing without superstar running back Christian McCaffrey, they took a 24-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at home in Week 5. A divisional win before their Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 would be a huge boost for San Francisco.

Before kickoff, Natalie Grant, a Seattle native, sang the national anthem for the home crowd. While the nine-time Grammy nominee sang, however,  she didn't appear to be performing in front of a "home" crowd.

Lumen Field was significantly more red and gold than blue and action green. The 49ers faithful made their presence known in the Pacific Northwest. One fan commented , "Dear god this is embarrassing."

Despite having a heavily banged up defense, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is hoping to silence the opposing fans with a win on Oct. 10.

"We've got to move forward and look to make the improvements we need to make to go win," Macdonald told reporters. "So it's pretty much that simple, and we've got a great opportunity on Thursday night to make it right with a great team coming in here, division rival, so it should be a great game."

Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, who's completed 71.% of his passes for 1,466 yards and 5 touchdowns, is also locked in. "It's just about this game," Smith said.

"Those five games don't help them, don't help us. It's about this game and focusing on this Thursday night. That's all that really matters."
