There are two huge games in the SEC this weekend, with one coming between former Big 12 teams and the other being traditional teams. That matchup is this contest between the No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels (5-1) against the No. 13 LSU Tigers (4-1). Last season's matchup was an epic game that Ole Miss won 55-49. We'll see if this season's game can compare for these two SEC teams that are hoping to build their playoff resumes with a huge conference win.

Location : Tiger Stadium (Baton Rouge, La.)
    Date : Saturday - October 12
    Time : 7:30 PM ET
    Channel : ABC
    Line : Ole Miss -3.5; O/U 61.5

Irish Breakdown has made predictions for this huge contest.

    BRYAN DRISKELL, OWNER

    Prediction : LSU 31, Ole Miss 27

I'm having a tough time with this prediction. When I watch both teams on film I come away with the feeling that Ole Miss is the better team. While the Rebel offense has been good, and it has some really impressive statistics, but it has scored just 22 points per game in its two SEC games. What is fueling their success is a lock down defense that has held four of its six opponents to six points or less. LSU hasn't looked as good on film, but the Tigers can score and its defense is improved, although it's still not very good.

So why in the world am I predicting LSU to win after all that? Well, I have a few reasons. I'm still not sold that Ole Miss can string together strong performances, and the Rebels have largely struggled in games like this. That being a night game against a highly ranked opponent. Brian Kelly lost two home games in his first season, but they have not lost at home since a late November game against Texas A&M back in 2022. If LSU can protect Garrett Nussmeier I think they'll be able to score on Ole Miss. If they can't protect him the Rebels will shut LSU down and they will win the game.

    VINCE DEDARIO, FOOTBALL ANALYST

    Prediction : Ole Miss 27, LSU 24

Night game at LSU. Very tough environment to play in for sure. This begins a very tough four game stretch for the Tigers that if they have any chance of making the CFP they need to beat Ole Miss in the first game. Ole Miss is still feeling the loss to Kentucky a couple weeks ago and has something to prove as well. This should be a nice capper to the college football slate on Saturday.

    NICK KREMER, RECRUITNG ANALYST

    Prediction : Ole Miss 37, LSU 34

Ole Miss is coming off a tough loss, but has looked impressive prior to that game. The Rebels boast the 12th best total defense and the 2nd best total offense in the country. As for the Tigers, they are coming off a bye week, and Brian Kelly is usually pretty good following bye weeks. It will be a wild atmosphere which could cause some trouble for the rebels, but I still think Lane Kiffin comes out of Baton Rouge with the win.

    SEAN STIRES, STAFF WRITER

    Prediction : Ole Miss 24, LSU 20

LSU has quietly won four straight since their season-opening loss to USC in Las Vegas. This is the first of stretches of three of the next four opponents being ranked for both teams.

    TREVOR TROWBRIDGE, STAFF WRITER

    Prediction : Ole Miss 35, LSU 24

You can never count out the Tigers at home at night, but Ole Miss has too strong of an offense and Tiger defense won't be able to keep up with the Rebels for 60 minutes.

    ANDREW MCDONOUGH, IB CONTRIBUTOR

    Prediction : Ole Miss 38, LSU 34

The Tigers gave up 55 points last year to Ole Miss in Oxford, a big reason why Brian Kelly made fixing the defense top priority this offseason. While LSU has seen some improvement, the Tigers still rank 14th in the SEC in total defense and dead last in pass defense. That's a recipe for disaster against the nation's second-ranked offense and touted QB Jaxson Dart.

    JOE EVERETT, IB CONTRIBUTOR

    Prediction : Ole Miss 38, LSU 28

Ole Miss is 2nd in FBS in passing output, 3rd in scoring defense, and 10th in scoring offense, averaging 44 points per game behind quarterback Jaxson Dart and the Rebels’ plethora of skill position players. The Tigers are a bit banged up and may be missing a couple of players. I'm going with the Rebels in this one.
