Cameras Capture Geno Smith's Violent Outburst After Throwing INT vs. 49ers

Credit Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith for, at the very least, throwing a lot more passes than he'd expected in Thursday night's 36-24 loss to the division rival 49ers in Seattle. Smith threw 52 passes against San Francisco, which is not usually a good sign--the Seahawks had to throw the ball so much because they fell behind, 16-0, in the first half.

The only other time this season that Smith threw 50 or more passes was in Week 4 against Detroit, and that was mostly because the Seahawks fell behind, 21-7, in the first half. Smith did not eclipse the 50-pass mark at all last season.

The problem, of course, is that throwing more passes leaves a quarterback open for more interceptions, and Smith threw two important ones in the loss to San Francisco. He was especially frustrated after the second one, and took it out by slamming one of the team replay tablets.

Smith's first pick came on the Seahawks' opening possession, with Seattle having driven down to San Francisco's 25-yard line. On a third-and-5 play, Smith tried to find Tyler Lockett near the end zone, but the ball was intercepted by Malik Mustapha.

The more important interception--the one that angered Smith and caused him to spike his tablet--came in the fourth quarter on a pass over the middle. The Seahawks had gotten the score to 23-17, but Smith's interception gave the 49ers the ball back on the Seahawks' 15-yard line with 7:46 to play.

The 49ers punched in the touchdown to take command of the game, 29-17.

Smith, who turned 34 years old on Thursday, finished the day with 312 passing yards and did help the Seahawks have a chance in the second half, but the two turnovers proved too costly to overcome.

The win moves the 49ers, who have scuffled early in the year, to 3-3 and, for now at least, into first place in the NFC West.

Agreed, if they want to act like little kids, treat them as such, put someone else in for a play or two. Your the quarterback the leader, act like it. Don’t throw tantrums.
