Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning has made a habit of issuing bold statements during his time in Eugene, and that's not changing this week as his No. 3 Ducks get set to host the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday.

On Friday morning appearing on the Pat McAfee Show, Lanning was asked about recruiting, and the Ducks' ability to attract some of the best players from across the nation.

While that's sometimes hard to do when tucked away in the upper left corner of the United States, Lanning has a bold message for recruits on how to make sure they're doing what's best for their career.

"I always tell people don't pick what's most convenient pick what's best," Lanning said.

Moving to Eugene may not be convenient for a player on the East Coast, or down in the American South, but getting up to the Pacific Northwest and learning under coaches like Lanning, Tosh Lupoi, Will Stein, and Junior Adams has proven to be a great move for players trying to make it to the next level.

Lanning has been effective in this recruiting tactic thus far, as the Ducks have picked up prospects from across the nation. While California has been a hotbed for the Ducks, Oregon has also landed some of the best players out of Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Maryland, and places across the nation.

The Ducks have had great success recruiting under Lanning, with the nation's No. 9 class in 2023, and the No. 4 class in 2024. They're looking to sign another top-10 class this year, headlined by 5-star WR Dakorien Moore (Duncanville, Texas) and 5-star WR Dallas Wilson (Tampa, Florida).

A win against the Buckeyes will certainly help on the recruiting trail, as Oregon is set to host a handful of 5-star recruits in the 2025 and 2026 class for this primetime showdown.
