    Knicks Ready for Hollywood Ending?

    By Lance Roberson,

The New York Knicks haven't won an NBA Finals since 1973. However, regardless of the Larry O'Brien drought, legendary director and Knicks fan Spike Lee believes something epic is near for the New York franchise. In GQ's interview with the "Do the Right Thing" director, he produced a Hollywood-level monologue regarding the Knicks' championship future.

“When the Knicks win this championship and it’s in the Garden, New York City’s going to be on fire. They better call the National Guard, the Marines, the Army, even the mother***** Air Force. And the NYPD and the FDNY," said Lee .

The Knicks' preseason hype is as high as it's been since Patrick Ewing played in the 1990s. Even before the Knicks traded for Karl-Anthony Towns, the belief around the "Villanova" Knicks and Julius Randle led to talking heads like Kendrick Perkins picking the Knicks as the best team in the Eastern Conference.

Now, with Towns as the second scoring option to Jalen Brunson, Knicks fans are reaching Mother Teresa levels of faith. Due to the four-time All-Star's shooting and rebounding abilities, New York brings something to the table to offset rival Eastern Conference bigs like Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Lee's comments read like someone inciting a riot, and the continuous pressure on the Knicks could backfire. In addition to the dangerous rhetoric in these sensitive times, Lee's fiery prediction could lead to severe disappointment.

The Eastern Conference is top-heavy, with the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, and Milwaukee Bucks as favorites to contend for the top seeds. Moreover, the Indiana Pacers represent a dark horse contender in the East. Getting out of such a gauntlet will test the franchise, which could lead to the Knicks bowing out before the NBA Finals.

Nonetheless, win or lose, Lee stands by his Knicks, even if it means setting the city ablaze.

I stand hopefully by the knicks every year. If they win it all, I'm grateful. If they don't and I'm still breathing, God willing, I'm still standing by the Knicks. That's what fans do.
