Kayla Nicole, the ex-girlfriend of Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce, had more than a few things to say during her recent appearance on Angel Reese's "Unapologetically Angel" podcast.
Nicole, a social media star, got painfully honest about her five-year on-and-off relationship with the All-Pro tight end, which ultimately came to its conclusion in 2022.
At one point in Thursday's episode of the podcast , Reese asked Nicole what type of advice she would give about dating a high-profile athlete.
"My biggest advice in dating an athlete is to always have your own," Nicole said .
She then went on to warn about falling into the trap of getting too caught up "in their dream." According to the 32-year-old on-air sportscaster, it's always important to have your own thing going.
"I was in-between apartments and thought 'It's cool, we're going to get married and I'm going to move into the house, I don't really need an apartment'," she continued. "We broke up, my lease was up, my lease on my car was up all at the same time."
Per Tom Beattie of The Mirror U.S , the relationship had gotten to a point where Nicole was convinced that her relationship with Kelce was headed down the aisle. Obviously, things did not pan out as planned.
And then, the breakup came.
Nicole admitted that the public scrutiny she had to go through after being in such a high-profile relationship definitely took its toll. One of the toughest parts of it all is having to deal with the public backlash while these same critics did not even know what was really going on behind closed doors.
"You throw in social media, you throw in the media, and narratives they're trying to spin," she said. "That's a challenge in itself because it's like none of it is true. You guys have actually no idea what's really going on and what's really most hurtful about this situation and what I'm really having to battle at home.
"It got to a point where it was like, I don't even care about Travis anymore," Nicole said. "Y'all don't even know what was going on."
That's all water under the bridge now, though. While the breakup and the aftermath of the split was extremely difficult, Nicole herself said it was a " good time in my life ."
If anything, what Nicole can take away from that relationship is that it helped mold her into the person she is today.
