Pat McAfee Reveals Why Kirk Herbstreit’s Leaving College GameDay Early on Saturday

It's another college football Saturday, and ESPN's "College GameDay" is in Eugene, Oregon, ahead of a top-three matchup between the second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes and the third-ranked Oregon Ducks.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams as Big Ten rivals. Oregon left the Pac-12 this past offseason and permanently moved to the Big Ten.

It's not common for a "College GameDay" host to leave in the middle of the show, but this Saturday, Kirk Herbstreit did.

At the top of the show, Pat McAfee revealed why Herbstreit won't be on set till the show ends.

He'll be on a long flight from Eugene, Oregon, to Dallas, Texas, to call the Texas vs. Oklahoma game.

After leading Oregon fans in a thrilling rendition of The Isley Brother’s 1959 hit song ‘Shout,’ McAfee, out of breath, revealed how much he loved it in Eugene.

“It’s a great day in Oregon," McAfee said on "College GameDay." "It’s 6 a.m., and Herbie (Herbstreit) is gonna be on a plane at some point during this show."

“Lucky to be here…I’m gassed. I am gassed,” he added, out of breath from leading the song.

The "Red River Rivalry" is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET, so he needs to leave "College GameDay" about an hour early to make it in time for that game. The flight time from Eugene to Dallas is roughly three hours and 40 minutes.

"I’m leaving 'GameDay' like an hour early, in the middle of the show," Herbstreit said . "I’m going to have to make it because our OU-Texas game starts at 3:30."

Herbstreit will join ESPN play-by-play commentator Chris Fowler on the call. They'll be in attendance for the first meeting between Texas and Oklahoma as members of the SEC.
