Jets' New Play-Caller Reveals 3-Word Plan to Change Aaron Rodgers' Offense

The New York Jets will compete for first place in the AFC East against the Buffalo Bills on Monday night.

While the team could be first in the division with a win, it has not been an ideal start for the Jets. After beginning the season 2-3 and losing two-straight games, owner Woody Johnson decided to fire coach Robert Saleh.

After becoming interim head coach, former defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich made the decision to promote passing game coordinator Todd Downing to the team's offensive play-caller.

When asked what he expects to be different with him at the helm of the offense, Downing made it clear he wanted to flip the narrative about New York's run game.

"First of all, this team does have a strong run game," Downing said. "We just haven't seen it come to fruition consistently enough. Secondly, I think there become times where you can find people pressing a little bit because there's an expectation for production and when it's not met, you can feel a sense of urgency.

"I believe our guys are ready to answer the bell and make the quarter-turn adjustments we need to make to get this thing on track."

"Answer the bell''? Those three words are an apt way to describe what must happen now in terms of a post-Saleh turnaround.

Through five games, the Jets are averaging just 80 yards per game, which is fewest in the NFL. The team had high expectations heading into the season with Breece Hall coming off a career-year and the team drafting Braelon Allen, the current youngest player in the league, in the fourth round of the 2024 draft.
