Most people will remember North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Mack Brown for his time as the head coach of the Texas Longhorns. Brown went an impressive 158-48 in his 16 seasons in Austin, which resulted in one national championship.

He has been responsible for rebuilding North Carolina in the last six seasons. When Brown took over in 2019, the Tar Heels had only won five games combined in the previous two seasons. He led them to a 7-6 season and a bowl-game win in his first year.

In 2022, Brown's best season occurred when he led the Tar Heels to a 9-5 record. However, the team has not been able to surpass that achievement. Currently, North Carolina has a 3-3 record this season. Paul Finebaum shared on his show, the "Paul Finebaum Show," that he believes this will be Brown's final season in Chapel Hill.

"I think clearly Mack Brown is leaving," Finebaum said. "He's had a good return, but it's over."

The Tar Heels began the season 3-0 but have suffered three consecutive losses to teams such as James Madison, Duke and Pittsburgh. ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) currently ranks North Carolina as the No. 13 team in the ACC and the No. 64 team overall.

The Tar Heels are projected to finish with a 6-6 record this season, according to the FPI. It's unclear whether Finebaum believes Brown will be fired or if he'll retire after a 35-year career as a head coach.
