Jalen Milroe Makes History Against South Carolina in Week 7

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe continues to thrive in Kalen DeBoer's offense, with 1,274 passing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, and nine rushing touchdowns through five games heading into Week 7. Milroe set career highs last season under former head coach Nick Saban with 2,834 passing yards and 31 total touchdowns.

Alabama faced the South Carolina Gamecocks in Week 7 for the 16th time in series history. Despite being in the same conference, Alabama and South Carolina do not play each other often, as the last meeting took place in 2019. However, Alabama led the all-time series 11-4 coming into the matchup.

Jalen Milroe got Alabama on the board early with a one-yard rushing touchdown, which is nothing new as Milroe is known to make plays with his legs.

While the rushing touchdown is routine for a player like Milroe, it set a new Alabama record. Milroe became the first player in program history to have 10 passing and rushing touchdowns in multiple seasons. Milroe had 12 rushing touchdowns last season, and the most recent one put him at 10 for 2024.

Alabama has a history of producing top offensive talent, with Mark Ingram (2009), Derrick Henry (2015), DeVonta Smith (2020), and Bryce Young as its four Heisman winners. Henry and Smith won multiple awards in the same season, taking home the Maxwell Award in their Heisman-winning years. Young won the Maxwell in 2021, a year before he won the Heisman for Alabama in 2022.

Milroe was a former four-star recruit in the 2021 class and the No. 12 quarterback at the position, per the On3 Industry Rankings . The Crimson Tide look to rebound against South Carolina after being upset by the unranked Vanderbilt Commodores in their last game.
