College Football Program's Embarrassing Crowd Leads to Home-Field Advantage For Away Team

The Week 7 slate of college football is arguably the most loaded that the sport has seen this season.

The No. 1 Texas Longhorns and No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners are in Dallas for the 120th rendition of the iconic Red River Rivalry. Out West, there is a top-three matchup between new Big Ten Foes as the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes are visiting the No. 3 Oregon Ducks, and need not forget that the No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels are in Baton Rouge to take on the No. 13 LSU Tigers.

Before college football fans are treated to the clash of giants, there are a handful of under-the-radar games to look out for on Saturday. One of the more intriguing games taking place early on Saturday is between the No. 10 Clemson Tigers and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

The Tigers are looking to establish themselves as the best ACC program while the Demon Deacons are looking to play spoiler. While the game is at Wake's Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium, pictures from social media of the crowd have made it seem like the game is taking place at Clemson's Memorial Stadium.

As seen behind ESPN's Taylor McGregor, the crowd is loaded with Clemson Orange, and according to Clemson insider, Will Vandervort, the Clemson fans were much louder than the home crowd when the team ran onto the field.

"When Clemson came out of the tunnel, the Clemson crowd was way louder than the Wake Forest fans," Vandervort wrote on X. "Almost sounds like a home game for the Tigers."

While the Tigers came into the game favored by 21.5 points, the Wake football team likely would have loved a bit more support from the fan base. However, it doesn't come as too much of a surprise that students aren't packing the stadium to watch a matchup that Clemson has dominated historically.

Coming into Saturday, the Tigers had won the last 15 meetings, while Wake had beaten Clemson just 17 out of the 89 times the teams have played dating back to 1933.

A win on Saturday may convince more fans to attend future games, but history tells us that's an unlikely occurrence.
