Joe Tessitore Facing Backlash for SEC Comment During South Carolina-Alabama

For the second straight week, Alabama was on upset watch, but they ended up managing to hold off South Carolina in Week 7, as they posted a hard-fought 27-25 victory over the Gamecocks.

The game had a thrilling end thanks to a late touchdown and onside kick recovery from South Carolina, but the Crimson Tide ended up closing out the victory thanks to a Domani Jackson interception as time expired.

College football fans everywhere were tuning in to see how this surprisingly exciting game concluded, but they ended up getting irritated by the commentary from Joe Tessitore. The ESPN commentator was gleefully praising the SEC for their quality of football as this game wrapped up, and he received quite a bit of backlash as a result.

Tessitore's SEC comment seemed to draw the most ire from fans, and it quickly resulted in him taking a beating from fans on social media.

@ot2bert noted on X, formerly Twitter, how Tessitore's call "sounded more like an ESPN/SEC advertisement," and that "no one should be THAT excited for a Bama-SC game."

@WVPitt trolled Tessitore by jokingly saying "'Great day for the SEC when your #7 team plays bad and needs errors on the other team to win.'"

@Buscusriot wondered "was he always this bad?" in response to this game-ending call from Tessitore.

It's one thing to be excited about football, but it seems like Tessitore's commentary went over the line in the eyes of these fans, which is why he took such a beating online after the game was over.

Regardless of your thoughts on the commentary, there's no doubt that Alabama and South Carolina's Week 7 clash was a good one, and college football fans will be hoping that the late slate of games is just as good as the early ones were.

I thought he called an Awesome Game. I'll take Joe Tessitore or a Gus Johnson Broadcast over any others!! Both bleed excitement into the Game? Can U imagine if Sean McDonough was on the Mic?
