Los Angeles Rams cornerback Tre'Davious White made Locker's list of players who could be moved at the trade deadline and while he has had a disappointing season, he believes White could serve the Vikings well in the second half of the season.
White has a strong resume, finishing second in the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2017 and making back-to-back All-Pro teams in 2019 and 2020. But White has struggled to find the same form after suffering a torn ACL on Thanksgiving Day 2021.
The injury limited him to just six games in the 2022 season and White then suffered a torn right Achilles last October, prompting the Bills to allow him to sign a one-year, $10 million contract with the Rams last spring.
White made it back to start for the Rams in Week 1 but 2024 hasn't been kind to Los Angeles who enters their bye week with a 1-4 record. White also hasn't done well individually, posting a 50.2 overall grade on PFF and a 147.8 passer rating when targeted but Locker went on to say that the Vikings, Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys could be suitors at the deadline.
"The unfortunate reality appears that the Rams will have to wave the white flag at some point in 2024," Locker wrote. "That doesn’t mean trading Matthew Stafford, but general manager Les Snead should try to net assets as he can — and the soon-to-be free agent White classifies."
The Vikings cornerbacks were a big concern heading into the year but a lot changed with the signing of Stephon Gilmore.
While the 34-year-old leads the team with a 68.7 PFF grade, Byron Murphy Jr. (60.8) and Shaquill Griffin (59.7) have PFF grades hovering around 60 and depth could be a key factor as the Vikings are set to play 12 straight games coming out of this week's bye.
The problem for the Vikings is that they don't have much draft capital to swing a deadline deal. While Minnesota still has its first-round pick, they have just two fifth-round picks in the 2025 draft, making a deadline deal unlikely unless Adofo-Mensah wants to deal 2026 or 2027 picks.
With a reluctance to go "Full Rams," it's unlikely that White – who was a healthy scratch in Week 5 – could be heading to Minnesota. But at 5-0, Adofo-Mensah may decide to get aggressive and add another corner to the Vikings' dominant defense.
