Many college football teams proved why they are national championship contenders during Week 7 of the 2024 season.

The No. 1 Texas Longhorns downed the No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners 34-3 in the latest edition of the Red River Rivalry. The No. 10 Clemson Tigers made light work of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. And both No. 4 Penn State and No. 5 Georgia did their thing to secure a win.

But there was one squad in particular that impressed "College GameDay" host Rece Davis, and that was the No. 3 Oregon Ducks.

Oregon defeated the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes by a final score of 32-31 in Eugene, OR, in their first contest as Big Ten foes.

The Ducks took the lead with 1:47 left to play after making a 19-yard field goal. Their defense then stopped the high-powered Buckeyes offense, led by quarterback Will Howard, on their final drive of the game, giving Oregon the win.

Davis believes that with the win, Oregon should be the new No. 1 team in the nation, taking to social media to give his opinion.

"Beat that team?" Davis wrote on X. "You’re number 1 in my book. Congrats Oregon Football and fans. Ohio State still top 3. What a game. Sign me up for a rematch in Indy. That was sensational. Both teams."

Even though the Ducks did, in fact, put up a performance that is worth a jump to the No. 1 spot, many college football fans did not agree with Davis' latest take, giving their thoughts on who the actual No. 1 should be following Oregon-OSU. The common consensus appeared to be the Longhorns.

"Texas ~ Oregon ~ Ohio St ~ Georgia," one fan said.

"Texas, Oregon, Penn State, OSU, Georgia, Miami, Tennessee, Clemson, Ole Miss, Alabama. Top 10."

"I don’t think so, brother. Not with that defense is Ohio State top 3. Texas still on top."

    "Texas is 1"

"Great game, yes, but Texas is CLEARLY #1."

Davis attended the University of Alabama and became the "College GameDay" host in 2015, taking over for former host Chris Fowler. He also serves as a play-by-play analyst for college basketball.

Oregon (6-0) remains one of the lone undefeated teams remaining in all of college football. In his first season with the Ducks, quarterback Dillon Gabriel has proven that he can lead them to big wins, which is a good sign of things to come when the College Football Playoff rolls around.
