Travis Hunter, Colorado’s two-way star, suffered a potential game-changing injury during the Buffaloes’ 31-28 loss to Kansas State on Saturday night. A hard hit in the second quarter sent Hunter to the locker room, leaving Buffaloes fans wondering about his future impact on the team as they navigate a pivotal part of their season.

    Hunter’s Injury: A Critical Moment

The injury occurred during a routine crossing route when Hunter hauled in a 14-yard pass from quarterback Shedeur Sanders. After the catch, he collided hard with Kansas State’s safety Daniel Cobbs, signaling for a sub as he held his right shoulder. Although the medical staff tended to him immediately, the seriousness of the injury became apparent when Hunter did not return to the game. Prior to the injury, he had three catches for 26 yards and had been on the field for 44 of Colorado’s 45 offensive and defensive snaps, highlighting his importance to the Buffaloes.

    Deion Sanders’ Postgame Comments

After the game, Coach Deion Sanders expressed concern for Hunter but emphasized the priority on health. “I haven’t gotten an update on those young men,” Sanders said. “Hopefully they can get back at it, but we’re not going to rush them. Their safety and their health is much more important than this game.” Hunter’s absence was felt on both sides of the ball, as he has been a vital component of Colorado’s defense and offense this season. Sanders also noted that the team had opportunities for other players to step up in Hunter’s absence, but missing a player of his caliber was “tremendous.”

    The Road Ahead for Colorado

Hunter’s injury raises concerns about Colorado’s ability to maintain their momentum. Before his injury, Hunter had been a dominant presence for the Buffaloes, with 49 receptions for 587 yards and six touchdowns on the season. In addition to his offensive production, Hunter has also been crucial defensively, recording two interceptions and 16 tackles this season. His durability had already been a point of discussion, given the massive number of snaps he plays, and Saturday’s injury only amplifies that concern.

As Colorado prepares for their next game against Arizona, the uncertainty surrounding Hunter’s availability could significantly impact the team. His ability to bounce back will be critical for the Buffaloes, but as Coach Prime reiterated, “We’re not going to rush them.”

The Buffaloes will need to regroup quickly as they head into the second half of their season.
