The NFL reigns king in the United States. Football is the most popular sport in the nation, and the NFL leads college football as the most popular sport overall.

Now, the league has begun to expand outside of the United States. They've been regulars in London to expand American football, and they've recently begun playing in Brazil.

The NBA has laid the foundation for expanding a predominant United States league globally. The NFL is looking to follow suit and continue growing the most popular league in the country.

The Super Bowl, however, is a staple in America. It's engrained in the culture so far, that non-football fans celebrate the day the big game is played. Parties are hosted across the league, and many fans travel to the neutral site location to watch the Super Bowl.

The location of the Super Bowl, as well as the entertainment and halftime show provided, play a big part in the anticipation of the championship game.

Hosting the Super Bowl outside of the United States could really, really upset NFL fans. The league's commissioner, Roger Goodell, hinted at the possibility of the big game being hosted on foreign soil, and fans didn't take that prediction well.

“We’ve always traditionally tried to play a Super Bowl in an NFL city — that was always sort of a reward for the cities that have NFL franchises,” he said in response to a question about moving the neutral-site game internationally. “But things change. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if that happens one day.”

As expected, fans are going to call for a change in commissioner and Goodell is facing backlash for his comments.

Whether said idea will ever have any substance or not is yet to be seen, and it's hard to imagine the NFL does such a thing, but even the prediction or opening the idea of it is leaving fans quite upset.
