Chicago Bears rout Jaguars 35-16 in London as Williams shines

The Chicago Bears shrugged off a slow start offensively to rout the Jacksonville Jaguars 35-16 on Sunday in London. The win is Chicago’s third in a row and sends the team into the bye week at 4-2.

Cole Kmet, Keenan Allen and Caleb Williams all had big days, and the Bears defense was stout as usual.

The Bears did have a couple injuries , including to the long snapper , which thrust Kmet into long snapping duties. When Scott Daly, the long snapper, was hurt, the Bears had gone three-and-out twice and it looked like Kmet would be busy on the punt team. Instead, he was busy as the long snapper for point-after attempts.

Chicago’s offense scored touchdowns on five of the team’s next six possessions, with the one failure coming on an interception that could’ve been a touchdown if Williams had put a little less air under it.

Still, Williams turned in easily his best performance of his professional career on Sunday, completing 23-of-29 passes for 226 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. He also ran four times for 56 yards.

Kmet scored the Bears’ first two touchdowns and totaled 70 yards on five catches; Allen scored his first and second touchdowns in a Bears uniform; D’Andre Swift racked up 87 yards and a score on 15 carries; and Chicago’s defense forced two turnovers despite being down several key contributors.

Fortunately for the Bears, they now get a week off to rest and recuperate — a much-needed break as the injuries, especially on defense, are piling up.

Chicago will be back in action on Oct. 27 at Washington.
