    Surging College Football Program Left Off Top 25 Rankings After Upset

    The AP Poll top 25 college football rankings have dropped heading into Week 8, and we have a new No. 1 as the Texas Longhorns claimed the top spot. One fellow SEC squad just missed have a number next to their name. More on that in a bit, but first let's take a look at the top of the board.

    After upsetting the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Oregon Ducks moved up to No. 2 followed by the No. 3 Penn State Nittany Lions following the team's comeback victory over the USC Trojans.

    Ohio State fell just two spots to No. 4 after the team's narrow loss to Oregon. Finally, the Georgia Bulldogs will head to Austin ranked No. 5 as fans are treated to a primetime matchup between two top-five opponents on Sat., Oct. 19.

    The Vanderbilt Commodores were once again a double-digit underdog in Week 7, and the guys from Nashville knocked off the Kentucky Wildcats. Vanderbilt was a 12.5-point dog versus Kentucky, per Action Network . There was no letdown for Vandy after notching a historic win over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Oct. 5.

    After these two SEC wins, the Commodores just missed on making the No. 25 spot with 68 votes. By comparison, No. 25 Navy received 84 votes to beat out Vandy.

    Fan favorite quarterback Diego Pavia leads Vanderbilt against Ball State on Sat. Oct. 19 as the Commodores aim to crack the top 25 following Week 8.
