Prayers Pouring in For Lions' Aidan Hutchinson After Brutal Injury Update

    By Michael Gallagher,

Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz revealed shortly after the Detroit Lions’ 47-9 Week 6 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday that edge-rusher Aidan Hutchinson had immediate emergency surgery on a fractured tibia he suffered in the third quarter.

The injury is a season-ending one for the dominating pass-rusher, who had three tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and three QB hits against Dallas before leaving the game.

Hutchinson’s injury was so gruesome that Fox refused to show video replay of it during the live broadcast.

The incident happened as Hutchinson came off the edge and wrapped up Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott for a sack. He was running as such a high rate of speed that when his shin collided with teammate Alim McNeil’s knee, his leg violently bent the wrong way as he fell to the turf.

After news of his season-ending surgery broke, prayer began pouring in for the former No. 2 overall pick, who likely has a long road to recovery ahead of him.

“Huge loss. Prayers for a full recovery,” stated another .

Hutchinson’s loss is a big blow to Detroit’s 22nd-ranked defense. The 24-year-old entered Sunday’s game leading the NFL in sacks (6.5), sack yardages (49), pressures (40) and hurries (27).

In his absence, defensive ends Marcus Davenport (seven pressures, three hurries, three QB hits, 0.5 sacks) and Josh Paschal (four pressures, three hurries, three QB hits) are expected to take on a bigger role with Detroit’s pass rush.
