The Detroit Lions are a monster in the NFC, and that monster lost arguably the most terrifying part of its composition when star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson broke his leg in the second half of a blowout victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, October 13.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported via an X post that medical professionals transported Hutchinson to a local hospital in Dallas for "immediate surgery" on his broken tibia.

FOX Sports, which broadcast the contest between the Lions and the Cowboys, chose not to replay the footage of the injury due to its gruesome nature.

Detroit running back David Montgomery , who inked a two-year extension worth $18.25 million with the team just one day before the game in question, spoke at the contest's conclusion about what Hutchinson means to the franchise and how his teammates are handling the unfortunate developments.

"Aidan is the heartbeat of our team and the defense," Montgomery said . "We're taking it personal. We want to do it for 97."

Hutchinson entered Week 6 leading the NFL with 6.5 sacks despite playing only four games due to the team's early bye. He played all 17 games in each of his first two seasons, finishing second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2022 and earning Pro Bowl honors last year.
