Calls Mount for Bengals to Fire Head Coach Despite 'Sunday Night Football' Win

The Cincinnati Bengals went on the road to face off against the New York Giants in Week 6 of the 2024-25 season. While the team may have grabbed their second win of the season after defeating the Giants, 17-7, some fans were still displeased with Cincinnati's football team.

Heading into the game, the Bengals were 1-4 on the year despite having a preseason predicted win total of over/under 10.5 wins, according to ESPN BET .

Quarterback Joe Burrow has delivered a quality performance, posting one touchdown and a combined 263 yards against New York, but the Bengals' offense seems to be the issue for the AFC North squad.

Specifically, some fans are upset about head coach Zac Taylor's offensive play-calling. They believe he is holding the team back, mostly due to his commitment to the passing game.

With the constant struggles on offense this season, some fans even believe Taylor should be fired.

"It's still Fire Zac Taylor don't get it twisted. Abandoned the run immediately, which is a common mistake he makes, joe burrow bailed him out tonight. Glad we won," said one fan on X, formerly Twitter.

"Fire Zac Taylor," said another fan.

"Zac Taylor calls a pass play every down and doesn’t expect the defense to know what they’re doing," mentioned a third fan.

"I've come to the conclusion that Zac Taylor's favorite play to call is a screen pass," commented another.

"Zac Taylor gotta go man. These play calls aren’t it anymore. He’s holding this team back," said one fan.

"3rd & short zac taylor play calls never fails to let me down," said another fan.

Despite the rocky start, what is promising to fans is that the Bengals have one of the best quarterback-wide receiver duos in the league as Burrow heads the offense alongside Ja'Marr Chase, who often makes big-time plays as the team's No. 1 pass catcher.

Chase ended the game against the Giants with five receptions and 72 yards.

The issue with Taylor, however, isn't the use of Burrow and Chase. Some fans think there is no balance to the offense, leading to easy defensive sets for the opposing team.

Additionally, Cincinnati seems to have abandoned the run this season with their top running back, Chase Brown, only recording one touchdown and 53 yards on just 10 carries in the "Sunday Night Football" victory.

The running back room received a total of 16 carries on the night.

An unbalanced offense plagued the Bengals in the first half of the matchup, and Taylor was interviewed just before heading into the locker room at halftime, explaining that the team needs to find a rhythm and be better in terms of play calling.

"We gotta find a better rhythm," Taylor said . "Gotta do a better job on the play calls myself."

Despite his message, some fans mentioned that it was the same story in the second half. He called for long-distance shots downfield on third and short and decided to be conservative when the Bengals needed a big play, calling too many screen passes, according to fans online.

Burrow was asked how the Bengals played after the game. He mentioned that it was an "ugly" performance from the offensive unit, but yet again, the Bengals' defense stepped up to the plate.

"Ugly," Burrow said, according to WDTN sports reporter Joey DeBerardino. "Really ugly. But, we got it done. Defense played great. They stepped up big time."

On the defensive end, the Bengals forced an interception off Giants quarterback Daniel Jones and also held New York to 5-of-15 third-down attempts. This led to the Bengals having the fewest points allowed in a game since Week 13 in 2019.

With the win over the Giants, the Bengals are 2-4, listed as the No. 3 team in the AFC North, behind the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers.

You always run with 2 plus minutes left up the middle ! No those pesky 5 yard passes that get a first down , because our defense is so damned porous right now

A quarterback is only as good as his offensive line 🤷
