Former Memphis Grizzlies executive Jerry West officially enshrined in 2024 Hall of Fame

For the third time, Jerry West's legacy has been enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

The former Memphis Grizzlies top executive was officially immortalized in the Class of 2024 as a contributor – becoming the first three-time inductee in the history of the Hall of Fame.

A key figure in Grizzlies history

West, who passed away last June at age 86, was initially inducted as a player in 1980 because of his legendary career with the Los Angeles Lakers. And 30 years later, the Hall of Fame again honored him as a member of the 1960 United States squad that clinched the Olympic men's basketball gold medal in Rome.

A basketball lifer, this year's induction of Jerry revolves around his impact and contributions to the game as an executive. He is famously known as the architect of the Lakers’ success from 1979 to 2000, helping the franchise win eight NBA championships. As such, he also played a pivotal role in the Golden State Warriors dynasty as a member of the team's front office leadership.

It might not be as glamorous compared to the other two but West's tenure as the general manager with the Grizzlies also contributed to his legacy and impeccable track record. His bold arrival in 2002 saw a rebirth for the franchise out of mediocrity, shaping Memphis into a perennial contender which changed the course of the entire organization.

His seven-year run with the Grizzlies was mainly highlighted by their dream season in 2003-04, winning a then-franchise record 50 wins, which gave West the Executive of the Year award.

A contributor to the game

Stepping in place for his father Jerry was his son Jonnie West, who accepted his father's historic third Hall of Fame jacket and ring. On Sunday, he delivered a heartwarming speech that fully emphasized the undying influence the Logo left on the sport.

" Role model, mentor, confidant, father figure. You're all those things to so many. Contributor to the game of basketball. That is you in every single sense, and that will live on forever,” he said in his speech.
